WHAT DID YOUR FAMILY CHOOSE CBC?
Love at first site for us. My boys and I went to Rivertown to just play a little ball when they were really little. A guy named Keith Daniel was the Director of Baseball at the time and he came up and was so nice and welcoming to our family. A week or two later, I saw this really sharp looking team warming up the right way and wearing their uniforms the right way and just generally representing a class act. It was a CBC team and I immediately wanted my boys to be part of it. To this day, when I see young families out at Rivertown, I go out of my way to welcome them as warmly as Keith did us. Maybe they’ll have as great an experience as my family had.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OR ASPECT OF OPENING DAY?
Hands down it’s 12U ball. The speed and competitiveness of the game rivals that of the higher levels on the big field. It’s just such a special year and those kids have been working all of those years to play on that stadium field and finish their season with a special tournament.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE SEASON AT CBC?
Favorite season- don’t really have one. In general, they’ve all been good. If I had to pick, I’d go with spring season 2022 because we got to be a part of Rusty Melcolm’s last season before retiring. Also, that team started to play pretty well together and were winning some baseball games!
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE MLB TEAM?
Atlanta Braves…and I’m not a band wagon fan. I grew up watching games at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. The team was terrible, the stadium was terrible, but they had Dale Murphy, Bob Horner and Claudell Washington. Those guys were like gods to me as a kid. Plus, the team was so terrible, nobody went to the games. You could sit right down front and go visit Chief Knockahoma’s tee-pee in the outfield. Sometimes these days when I get too caught up in how our team is doing in the win/loss column, I try to remind myself that as a kid, I idolized a team that was really pretty bad. Love of the game has to be there even on the days you suck!
